Description
The Great Torrington and District Community Development Trust (CDT) is a registered charity, formed in 1996 at a time of economic challenge for the people of Great Torrington. Its core aims are to:
- Improve the local economy
- Help individuals develop their skills and interests
- Encourage environmental and community sustainability
We are fortunate to have buildings at Castle Hill, which are home to the Tourist Information Centre, the Library, the Town Council, Citizens Advice and a cafe, surrounded by gardens which are open for the enjoyment of all. There is also a large community hall which can be hired at reasonable rates.
We welcome approaches from individuals and groups who wish to initiate a community project consistent with our aims and maybe involving our facilities. We are happy to support funding applications for community projects, but we do not have the resources to manage projects ourselves.
The CDT is mainly staffed by volunteers and we offer a range of volunteering opportunities including gardening, maintenance, administration, marketing, information and digital media. We are always interested to hear from people who wish to become Trustees.
